ST. PAUL, M.N. -- One of the Devils' newest forwards celebrated a milestone Thursday night versus the Minnesota Wild.
Chris Tierney, 29, officially skated in his 600th career NHL game.
The versatile forward made New Jersey's roster out of training camp, primarily serving as the team's extra. With injuries to Nico Hischier and Tomas Nosek, he found himself in the lineup for the team's last two games.
In Thursday night's contest, the Ontario native played 7:43, the most ice time he has seen this season. He finished the game with a faceoff win percentage of 42.9, winning three out of seven faceoffs.
In Tierney's Devils debut, he skated alongside Curtis Lazar and Nathan Bastian. In his last two appearances, Lazar was replaced with Alexander Holtz, and as Tierney said to reporters, their line has a good mix of skill.
"It's two guys who move well, a little bit different players, obviously," he said. "Bastian is a big guy who is good down low, has good hands around the net and can hold guys off. Holtz is very skilled, skates really fast, and it's nice to have a little bit of everything."
Tierney understands what his role is on the team and is looking to keep it simple and add a spark when he gets the nod.
"Whenever you get in the lineup, and obviously if you're in the bottom six, I think you want to go out and create energy for the team," he said. "So, just move my feet, get on pucks quick, and try to win puck battles."
Tierney and the Devils are back in action Friday night when they travel to Missouri to take on the St. Louis Blues.
