New Jersey currently has seven players sidelined with injuries.

Before departing to Tampa, Florida, the New Jersey Devils held a practice at RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House Wednesday afternoon.

The team worked on their power play, which will have a different look\ without Jack Hughes, Timo Meier, and Ondrej Palat.

The team's first power play unit at practice consisted of Luke Hughes, Jesper Bratt, Nico Hischier, Tyler Toffoli, and Dawson Mercer.

After practice, head coach Lindy Ruff talked about what Mercer can bring to the team's top unit.

"He brings a right-hand shot there," he said. "That will give us some one-handed opportunities, and low plays are a lot easier to make if you're a right-hander from that side. We'll give it a try and see what it looks like."

The team's second unit at practice included Simon Nemec, Nathan Bastian, Erik Haula, Alexander Holtz, and Chris Tierney.

Bastian has previously been utilized as the net-front presence on the power play and has found success. Tierney, who has appeared in 18 games this season, has yet to play on the power play up to this point. What is worth noting is he enters Thursday night's game on a two-game point streak and has collected three assists over his last five games.

Like Ruff's forward lines, the power play units can be switched up within the game, and nothing is permanent. The Devils will be back in action on Thursday night at Amalie Arena when they take on the Tampa Bay Lightning at 7:00 P.M.
