The New Jersey Devils received some encouraging news regarding Jonas Siegenthaler’s injury.
Siegenthaler left Tuesday night’s game against the Utah Mammoth in the third period, but head coach Sheldon Keefe said Thursday that the defenseman is feeling better and is not ruled out of Saturday's game against the Vancouver Canucks.
“He is better than originally thought, which is good news,” Keefe said after Thursday’s practice. “He is feeling a lot better today. He is going to try and skate tomorrow and see how that goes and make a decision from there. He is not ruled out for Saturday, but we’ll see where he is at. But it is good news in the sense that we are not expecting it to be long-term at this point.”
At practice the Devils utilized the following pairs:
Luke Hughes - Brett Pesce
Brenden Dillon - Johnathan Kovacevic
Declan Chisholm - Dougie Hamilton
Kovacevic, who has been sidelined as he recovers from an injury, is not far away from making his season debut.
Siegenthaler is in his seventh season with New Jersey after the Devils acquired him from the Washington Capitals in April 2021 in exchange for a conditional third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
