The New Jersey Devils defeated the Philadelphia Flyers by a 3-1 final score on March 9. With this, they snapped their three-game losing streak and improved to a 34-25-6 record.
Devils forward Erik Haula undoubtedly played a role in the club's win. The 33-year-old forward gave the Devils a 2-0 lead with his second-period goal and also recorded the primary assist on Dawson Mercer's empty-netter in the third.
Haula's goal was a nice one, too. After crashing the net hard, the veteran forward secured the puck and beat Flyers goalie Ivan Fedotov top shelf with a beautiful wrist shot.
With this strong performance, Haula has broken through his offensive cold streak. Before this contest, the 2009 seventh-round pick did not score a goal or record a point in 28 consecutive appearances. Now, he has gotten through it and did so in style.
Seeing Haula put together such a strong performance is undoubtedly encouraging. With Jack Hughes being done for the season, they need depth guys like Haula to step up, and he did just that against Philadelphia.
It will now be interesting to see how Haula builds off this big performance from here.
