The New Jersey Devils have invited Doug Grimes of Boston University to their development camp according to Mark Divver.
Grimes completed his freshman season with the Terriers scoring just two goals and three points in 23 games. Despite his low offensive output, many believe he can elevate his game next season with an increased workload and role.
In the previous season in the USHL, the 22-year-old produced at a point-per-game rate scoring 24 goals and 49 points in 49 games with Lincoln Stars. He finished third in points and second in goals on his team.
Grimes is a 6'3, 201 lbs right-handed winger, born in Brookline, Massachusetts. With multiple years of College eligibility, Grimes won't receive an entry-level contract anytime soon but a strong performance at the development camp and noticeable improvements in the next few seasons with Boston University, the Devils could keep him on their radar for the future.
The American picked up valuable experience with the Terriers in their Frozen Four loss. Surrounded by future first-overall pick Macklin Celebrini and other top prospects such as Lane Hutson and Riley Greene is a great foundation to build yourself up as a player.
NHL development camps usually take place in July and will feature many of the Devils' top prospects.
