Hughes left the Devils Friday night game against the Blues after colliding with the boards.

CHICAGO, I.L. -- The New Jersey Devils will be without their top forward for a little longer. Ahead of the team's game Sunday evening versus the Chicago Blackhawks, head coach Lindy Ruff provided an update on Jack Hughes.

"Jack, he's out (tonight)," Ruff said. "He will be week-to-week."

"I actually think we are fortunate," Ruff continued. "He came back (and) tried a shift. We got him on his way home to be taken care of by the athlete care people back in Jersey. I think we're fortunate, actually."

The injury occurred with 11 minutes remaining in the first period of the New Jersey Devils-St. Louis Blues game on Nov. 3. Hughes crashed hard into the boards and was still down on the ice when a trainer reached him. He skated to the bench on his own and remained there while the staff looked him over. When it was time for his line to jump back onto the ice, he joined them for a 59-second shift, but after that, he went down the tunnel and did not return.
