Goaltender Nico Daws was called up from the AHL ahead of the Devils-Ducks game.

NEWARK, N.J. -- On Sunday at 6:25 P.M., the New Jersey Devils announced that they had recalled goaltender Nico Daws from the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League (AHL) and that he would dress for the team's game versus the Anaheim Ducks at Prudential Center.

The 22-year-old was the team's backup netminder behind Akira Schmid, who started his second straight game. Vitek Vanecek did not dress.

After the team's 5-1 loss to the Ducks, New Jersey head coach Lindy Ruff provided the following update on Vanecek.

"Physically, he did not feel well this morning. Decided to keep him out of the game and made a decision that he didn't think he could go, so we brought Daws in."

The Devils will be off on Monday, Dec. 18. Any further updates must wait until Tuesday when the team hits the ice at Prudential Center.

Daws, who recently returned after undergoing offseason hip surgery, has appeared in two AHL games with a 1-1-0 record. He has a .937 save percentage and a 2.04 goals-against average.
