NEWARK, N.J. -- Reinforcements are coming for the New Jersey Devils.
After the team's practice on Monday morning at RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House, head coach Sheldon Keefe provided an update on defensemen Luke Hughes and Brett Pesce.
"Looks like Pesce and Luke Hughes' return is imminent. Not tomorrow night (against the Tampa Bay Lightning), but it is getting closer," he said.
Hughes (21) and Pesce (29) have been joining the team for morning skates and practices.
Hughes suffered a shoulder injury in September that has kept him off the ice since the start of training camp. Pesce underwent surgery to repair a fractured fibula this past offseason and has been recovering.
The emergence of Seamus Casey and Johnathan Kovacevic has kept the Devils' blue line afloat, leading the club to a 5-2-1 record and first place in the Metropolitan Division.
