The New Jersey Devils concluded their season series against the New York Rangers, winning two games and losing the final one.

In their final meeting of the season, the Devils fell 4-1 to the Rangers, with the lone goal coming from Connor Brown in the second period.

Despite Jacob Markstrom stopping 18 of the 22 shots he faced, the team was unable to pull off the win.

After the loss, head coach Sheldon Keefe shared his perspective on his team's performance.

"I thought defensively we weren't nearly strong enough," Keefe said to NJD.tv. "When it was time to defend, we made life really hard on (Jacob Markstrom) when we didn't need to. So just around our net, denying shot lanes. We have to defend better and then find a way to execute more on offense when the other team is defending hard and playing with structure and all those kinds of things."

Looking ahead, the Devils have eight games left in their season. The team currently sits in seventh place in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 38-34-2 and 78 points.

The Rangers, with a 31-35-9 record, have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention this season.

Reflecting on the rivalry, the results of this season's matchups are below.

  • March 7 vs. NY Rangers, W 6-3
  • March 18 at NY Rangers, W 6-3
  • March 31 at NY Rangers L 4-1

With the season winding down, the Devils now gear up to take on the Washington Capitals on Thursday night.
