Tom Horak-USA TODAY Sports - Former Fourth Round Pick Goes Unsigned By The Devils

The New Jersey Devils have not given Jaromir Pytlik a contract before the 5:00 P.M. June 1st deadline and are now losing his rights according to Capfriendly.

In the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, the Devils selected Pytlik with the 99th overall pick. Currently listed at 6'2, 201 lbs, the Czech-born centre will be eligible to sign with any NHL team.

In his draft year, the 22-year-old was playing with the Soo Greyhounds in the OHL. He scored 22 goals and 50 points in 56 games. This past season he played with Rytiri Kladno in the Czech Extraliga where he played in 43 games, scoring seven goals and 13 points.

Pytlik recently signed a one-year extension with Kladno which was a good indication that the Devils and Pytlik were going to go their separate ways.

The centreman is known for his 200-foot game that blends nicely with his speed and offensive touch but since his decision to play in Europe, he's struggled to take the necessary strides in his development.

Despite being selected in the fourth round, high expectations surrounded Pytlik. He has the skillset and the physical tools to be a good player but has been unable to put it all together on a consistent basis.

The Devils only had one player to sign before today's deadline which is a good sign when you see the length of the list for other teams.
