SEATTLE, W.A. -- It took 19-year-old Simon Nemec three games to score his first career NHL goal.
On Thursday night, at Climate Pledge Arena, the New Jersey Devils' defenseman saw Jesper Bratt skating behind the Seattle Kraken's net with the puck. Nemec skated towards the opposing net, found open ice, and received a pass from Bratt. He quickly fired the puck and got it past Philipp Grubauer for his first NHL goal.
After the game, Nemec was asked what he was thinking in that milestone moment.
"I didn't think. I didn't do a celly or something," he said with a smile. "It's there, and I was really happy, but I didn't look (like I was) happy, but I was."
"First goal, you'll remember forever."
Nemec's teammate Dawson Mercer also scored his first NHL goal versus Seattle.
