COLUMBUS, O.H. -- On Saturday, Dec. 16, the New Jersey Devils skated onto the ice at Nationwide Arena to play the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Holding onto a 3-2 lead, the Devils found themselves on a four-on-three power play with a little over five minutes left in the second period.

Jack Hughes carefully watched Nico Hischier win a faceoff against Sean Kuraly. The 5-foot-11 forward quickly jumped on the loose puck and passed it to Jesper Bratt. The 25-year-old Swede waited and then slid the puck back to Hughes. His slap shot got past Blue Jackets netminder Daniil Tarasov for his 100th career NHL goal.

The patriarch of the Hughes family, Jim, was in attendance as the Devils are hosting their yearly dad/mentors' trip this weekend. Jim was on site for Jack's first career NHL goal and now his 100th.

"It's pretty cool that (my dad and uncle) are here," Hughes said during a postgame interview with MSGN. "Just a really good trip for the fathers and, you know, memories for sure."

The 22-year-old became the fastest player to score 100 career goals in Devils team history, passing Brian Gionta, who accomplished the feat in 284 games.

The first-overall pick finished the night with his second career hat trick, scoring an empty net goal with 47 seconds left in the game.
