VANCOUVER -- On Dec. 5, Jim and Ellen Hughes will take in an NHL game featuring all three of their sons. On one side of the ice will be Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes and on the other will be New Jersey Devils Jack and Luke Hughes.
"(Tomorrow night's) game is a very important game for both teams in the standings. It is just another hockey game for them," Jim Hughes said. "It might feel a little different for Ellen and me, but for the three of them, they are trying to play to the best of their abilities and see if they can get their teams some points."
It is safe to say it has been an extremely successful start to the season for the Hughes family, with some eyeing Quinn for the Norris Trophy, Jack for the Hart Trophy, and Luke for the Calder Trophy.
At the quarter mark of the 2023-24 season, Quinn leads all defensemen with nine goals and is tied with Colorado Avalanche Cale Makar for the most points among blueliners (34). Jack leads the Devils with 30 points (nine goals, 21 assists) in 17 games. His 1.76 points per game this season is the best in the NHL. Luke's 14 points are tied for second-most among rookies with Marco Rossi of the Minnesota Wild but the most among defensemen.
