Devils' Hischier Moved To IR, Keefe Provides Injury Update

New Jersey Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe provides an update on Nico Hischier.

    Nico Hischier Injury Update

NEWARK, N.J. -- A few days after the New Jersey Devils activated one forward off injured reserve, the organization placed another one on it.

On Thursday morning, the Devils announced captain Nico Hischier was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Jan. 25.

The 26-year-old sustained an undisclosed injury in the second period of the Devils game on Jan. 25 against the Montreal Canadiens. Hischier has missed the last four games and is listed as week-to-week.

After the team's Thursday morning skate, head coach Sheldon Keefe provided the following update on Hischier's status.

"He is back on the ice," Keefe said to NJD.TV. "He is not going to be available this week, but the way it is trending, it would be a surprise if he is not available when we return from the break."

The Swiss center continues to lead his team with 24 goals and is tied with Stefan Noesen for the most goals on the power play with nine. He has taken 1,220 faceoffs, which is second-most in the league behind Sidney Crosby.

Hischier joins Santeria Hatakka (shoulder) and Jacob Markstrom (MCL sprain) on the Devils injured list.
