...And just like that, the New Jersey Devils are back.

The team is scheduled for a 2:00 P.M. practice on Sunday to prepare for their game against Miles Wood and the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday.

Before the team hits the ice, let's look back and see where the team currently stands.

The Devils entered the All-Star Break, dropping their last two games against the Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning. In both contests, New Jersey surrendered the game's first two goals.

The club is in the fifth wild card spot with 51 points, tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals.

The team's injured list includes Nolan Foote, Jack Hughes, Dougie Hamilton, Tomas Nosek, Jonas Siegenthaler, and Brendan Smith.

While in Toronto for the All-Star Break, Hughes told the media that he is "really close" to returning, and on Jan. 22, head coach Lindy Ruff said Nosek began to skate.

General manager Tom Fitzgerald recently told the media that Hamilton is still considered out long-term.

"(In) two or three weeks, we should have a better feel of where his timeline really looks like," Fitzgerald said in a press conference on Jan. 23, "for him to be 100 percent back to normal and ready to play."

Ahead of the break, the club re-assigned Justin Dowling, Santeri Hatakka, and Daniil Misyul to the Utica Comets. Defenseman Nick DeSimone, who was claimed from the Calgary Flames on Jan. 25, is expected to be on the ice for his first official practice in Newark with the team.

DeSimone was on the ice this afternoon sporting his number 57. He skated alongside Colin Miller, who appeared very vocal with the 29-year-old throughout practice.

When he met with the media, Ruff compared the two defensemen.

"When you look at (DeSimone's) game, he's a lot like a Colin Miller," he said. "He's got a good shot. Offensively, you would look at him to help create offense for you. It's good two-way depth for us."

The Devils are getting some reinforcements as Tomas Nosek joined his teammates for practice for the first time since sustaining a broken foot in November.

With the versatile veteran back, the lines and defensive pairs were as follows:

Ondrej Palat - Nico Hischier - Jesper Bratt

Tyler Toffoli - Erik Haula -Dawson Mercer

Timo Meier - Curtis Lazar - Nathan Bastian

Chris Tierney - Tomas Nosek - Alexander Holtz

    Kevin Bahl - Simon Nemec

    Luke Hughes - John Marino

    Colin Miller - Nick DeSimone

When it comes to the rest of their remaining injured players, most are getting closer to a return.

"I know (Hughes) is a lot closer than before, but I can't really give you a date," Ruff said. "It could be soon. It could be a few more days. We haven't had him in a full practice. It may come tomorrow if things go well today. Go from there."

Hughes skated in the morning with defensemen Jonas Siegenthaler and Brendan Smith, who are also on injured reserve.

"I would anticipate we're getting close with (Smith and Siegenthaler) to get back to practice," Ruff said.

After the team's skate, the organization announced defenseman Santeri Hatakka was recalled from the Utica Comets.
