NEWARK, N.J. -- With the New Jersey Devils back on the ice following the All-Star break, they received a massive reinforcement in Jack Hughes. The forward returned to ice after suffering an upper-body injury on Jan. 5.
Hughes skated in a non-contact jersey after skating for a few days with injured Devils’ defensemen Jonas Siegenthaler and Brendan Smith; he rotated in on the team's fourth line with Alexander Holtz and Tomas Nosek during line rushes.
While things went well on their own, head coach Lindy Ruff did not provide a timetable for his return. “I know he’s a lot closer than before, but for a date, I can’t really give you a date. It could be soon. It could be a few more days,” Ruff said.
Hughes participated in the NHL’s All-Star festivities on Thursday by participating in the Player Draft alongside his brother Quinn of the Vancouver Canucks; Jack did not play in the game on Saturday.
Before his injury, Hughes totaled 15 goals, 30 assists, and 45 points in 32 games played. He sits in second behind Jesper Bratt, his All-Star replacement, for the most points on the team. The Devils return to action on Tuesday against the Colorado Avalanche.
