After a three-game road trip in Florida, the New Jersey Devils announced on Sunday morning that defenseman Nick DeSimone and forward Justin Dowling were assigned to the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Dowling made his season debut with the Devils on Oct. 30 against his former club, the Vancouver Canucks. He appeared in nine straight games, centering the fourth line with Kurtis MacDermid and Tomas Tatar on his wings.

DeSimone was recalled on Nov. 8 and has served as the extra defenseman during his time with the Devils. This season with the Comets, the 29-year-old has two assists in nine games.

Three players in New Jersey are currently injured: Forwards Curtis Lazar (knee) and Nathan Bastian (jaw), as well as defenseman Santeri Hatakka (shoulder).

The Devils have a small break in their schedule and will play on Thursday, Nov. 21, when the club hosts the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Comets' next game will be Friday, Nov. 22, when the team visits the Syracuse Crunch.
