The New Jersey Devils held an 11:00 A.M. practice at RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House after two days off to prepare for their upcoming three-game road trip.
Two new faces were on the ice as the organization recalled forward Shane Bowers and defenseman Cal Foote from the Utica Comets (American Hockey League).
The club additionally announced that Jonas Siegenthaler (broken foot) has been placed on injured reserve. He joins Dougie Hamilton, Timo Meier and Tomas Nosek (LTIR).
There was a serious undertone to this afternoon's skate. The 50-minute practice entailed several high-intensity one-on-one and two-on-two drills. Near the conclusion of practice, the players were split into two groups and skated a few laps around the ice.
When the locker room opened for the media, there were noticeably a few players sitting at their respective stalls, trying to catch their breath.
Head coach Lindy Ruff said that none of the team's injured skaters are expected to be available in the short term. The player closest to returning is Meier, who has been skating in a "limited fashion" by himself.
Regarding the status of 22-year-old Jack Hughes, who is dealing with an upper-body injury, Ruff said his star center's timeline is considered good news.
"Jack, his case, is going to be weeks, not months," Ruff said. "We will evaluate him week-to-week."
As MSGN play-by-play announcer Bill Spaulding pointed out, the Devils are playing nine games between now and February 6 due to the All-Star break.
