OFFICIAL: Devils' Luke Hughes Named to 2024 U.S. Men's National Team

New Jersey Devils defenseman Luke Hughes is one of the first 15 players announced to the 2024 U.S. Men’s National Team that will compete in the IIHF Men’s World Championship, May 10-26, in Ostrava and Prague, Czechia.

NEWARK, N.J. -- USA Hockey made it official. On Wednesday, it was announced that New Jersey Devils rookie defenseman Luke Hughes was named to the 2024 U.S. Men's National Team, which will compete in the IIHF Men's World Championship, May 10-26, in Ostrava and Prague, Czechia.

Hughes will be joined by Matt Boldy (Minnesota Wild), Cole Caufield (Montreal Canadiens), Joel Farabee (Philadelphia Flyers), Johnny Gaudreau (Columbus Blue Jackets), Luke Kunin (San Jose Sharks), Dylan Larkin (Detroit Red Wings), Shane Pinto (Ottawa Senators), Brady Tkachuk (Ottawa Senators), Trevor Zegras (Anaheim Ducks), Seth Jones (Chicago Blackhawks), Jake Sanderson (Ottawa Senators), Alex Vlasic (Chicago Blackhawks), Zach Werenski (Columbus Blue Jackets), and Alex Lyon (Detroit Red Wings).

"We've got an outstanding start to our roster," said Brett Peterson (Northborough, Mass.), general manager of the 2024 U.S. Men's National Team and assistant general manager of the Florida Panthers in the official press release. "There's a lot of excitement among our players, and everyone is looking forward to representing our country in the world championship."

During his exit interview, Hughes spoke about participating in the tournament.

"Really excited. Anytime you can represent your country is an honor. I think that's really exciting to go and try to win," he said.

Team USA will train in Bratislava, Slovakia, beginning May 5 and play a pre-tournament game there against Slovakia on May 7. The U.S. will open play in the IIHF Men's World Championship against Sweden on May 10 in Ostrava, Czechia, at 2:20 p.m. ET. All U.S. games in the tournament will air live on NHL Network.

The U.S. has finished in the top four of the IIHF Men's World Championship in seven of the last 10 tournaments with four bronze medals to its credit (2013, 2015, 2018, 2021).
