The Florida Panthers and the Carolina Hurricanes are in the best spot possible right now with wins yesterday, they took 3-0 series leads.
Many expected the Hurricanes to not have much trouble with the New York Islanders but the Panthers taking care of the Tampa Bay Lightning this easily is a surprise to everyone.
Matthew Tkachuk scored twice in the Panthers win. The Panthers were able to kill off all four power play opportunities the Lightning had despite not having a power play chance of their own. The 148 hits the Panthers and Lightning combined for is the most in any game in NHL history.
Goals by Brent Burns and Dmitry Orlov in the first period gave the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead. The Islanders changed things up in goal starting Ilya Sorokin after playing Semyon Varlamov in the first two games. After Aho scored the third, Islanders HC Patrick Roy made a goalie change. The Islanders trailed by one in the third period and fired 11 shots on goal but Frederick Andersen closed the door.
Another four games are scheduled tonight, one Eastern Conference matchup between the New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals and three Western Conference games.
