It is the belief of one NHL insider that the New Jersey Devils will be interested in interviewing Sheldon Keefe.
NEWARK, N.J. -- The Toronto Maple Leafs firing of Sheldon Keefe on Thursday morning could lead to another head coaching candidate for the New Jersey Devils.
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic tweeted, "I do believe the New Jersey Devils will have interest in interviewing Sheldon Keefe as part of their coaching search."
It makes sense since Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald previously said he would "scour the coaching world" for the right candidate to lead his team next season.
Keefe would join a long list that reportedly includes Craig Berube, Jay Woodcroft, and possibly Todd McLellan.
New Jersey's interim head coach, Travis Green, accepted a job with the Ottawa Senators on May 7 and was introduced as their head coach in a press conference the following day.
Earlier this week, LeBrun reported that New Jersey would like to have a new coach hired within the next 7-10 days. Initially, Fitzgerald revealed during his end-of-season media availability he would like the position filled by the 2024 NHL Draft scheduled at the end of June.
