When the rumors swirled about Yaroslav Askarov requesting a trade from the Nashville Predators, he became the most wanted trade target of the off-season.
According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, there were multiple teams that were interested in the young net minder, however, the San Jose Sharks ultimately landed him.
Friedman listed a few teams that were in on Askarov in a tweet. One of the teams listed was the New Jersey Devils.
After making a large splash to acquire Jacob Markstrom, GM Tom Fitzgerald wanted to address the goaltending position again. Unfortunley, he wasn't successful in his efforts and will need to make do with his tandem of Markstrom and Jake Allen.
It is unclear who or what the Devils offered the Predators as a return. It may not have matched what they were looking for. However, one thing is clear, Fitzgerald is committed to making this team better, both now and for the long haul.
