Nazem Kadri is rumored to be back on the trade block. With NHL trade rumors swirling once again, the Calgary Flames forward is reportedly drawing interest from multiple teams, including the New Jersey Devils.

On paper, Kadri could be a strong fit in New Jersey. The Devils already have a talented and structured roster, but could benefit from the grit and edge that Kadri brings to the ice.

The 34-year-old center played all 82 games last season, tallying 35 goals and 32 assists. With 985 career games under his belt, Kadri brings a wealth of NHL experience, leadership, and grit. Drafted 9th overall in 2009, he’s developed into a player who could impact the Devils' lineup.

Kadri also has familiarity with Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe, as the two worked together during their time with the Toronto Maple Leafs, another factor that could make a potential reunion appealing.

    Where Would Kadri Fit?

The Devils already have two strong centers in Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, which presents some challenges. One option would be to move Hughes to the wing and slot Kadri in at center, but shifting your franchise player from his natural position seems unlikely.

More realistically, Kadri would anchor the third line, providing depth and toughness. But here’s the catch: Kadri isn’t priced like a third-liner.

He’s set to earn $7 million per year for the next four seasons, and the Devils are currently tight against the cap, with under $7 million in available space and Luke Hughes still in need of a new contract.

    Is It Worth It?

Even if the Devils were able to make the cap space work, there’s still the question of what it would cost to acquire Kadri. Calgary would likely demand a promising young player in return, someone like Dawson Mercer.

Would the Devils be willing to part with Mercer for an aging forward on a hefty contract? It seems unlikely.

    Final Verdict

While the idea of Nazem Kadri in a Devils uniform is intriguing, the reality is far more complicated. Between salary cap constraints, roster fit, and the likely high acquisition cost, a Kadri-to-New-Jersey deal doesn’t appear realistic, at least for now.
