There has been an update on the Dawson Mercer contract stalemate.

It is believed that he and the New Jersey Devils are inching closer to a deal. The deal is said to be somewhere in the range of a two- to three-year contract with an AAV of $3.5-$4 million.

As of right now, there is no word on if Mercer will report to the Devils' training camp. However, there is still time for them to officially release the details of the contract after they verbally agree on a deal.

If he isn't signed by the start of training camp, it'll leave a large hole in the Devils' lineup. However, given the condition of today's athletes, he will likely be ready to jump into camp as soon as he signs.

Last season with the Devils, he had 20 goals and 13 assists for 33 points in 82 games.
