NEWARK, N.J. -- In less than a week, New Jersey Devils veterans will report to training camp at RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House in Newark.

As the countdown to preseason continues, restricted free agent Dawson Mercer remains without a contract.

On Aug. 19, The Hockey News spoke to Mercer's agent, Pat Brisson, of CAA Sports LLC, who provided the following update regarding contract negotiations, "We have had many conversations, and we will continue to speak here this week. That's pretty much all I can say publicly."

On Thursday, The Hockey News contacted Brisson to see if there were any further updates regarding Mercer's contract.

"I don't have any updates at this point," Brisson said via text message.

Mercer has spent three seasons in New Jersey and has appeared in 246 consecutive games since making his debut on Oct. 15, 2021, against the Chicago Blackhawks. In his short career, he has earned 131 points (64 goals, 67 assists). He has collected at least 30 points each season to start his NHL career.

Mercer is one of a few RFAs who still need a contract. Jeremy Swayman (Boston Bruins), Lucas Raymond (Detroit Red Wings), and Cole Perfetti (Winnipeg Jets) are all without contracts as training camps around the league get underway.
