The league confirms the New Jersey Devils will play their first outdoor game since Jan. 26, 2014.

NEWARK, N.J. -- Mark your calendars. The New Jersey Devils will host the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, Feb. 17, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. While it's expected to be a nighttime game, a time has not been confirmed.

The New York Rangers and New York Islanders will play the following day on Sunday, February 18. Per the official press release, the event will mark the first time four NHL teams have played outdoor games at the same venue in front of fans.

NHL Chief Content Officer and Senior Executive Vice President Steve Mayer and NHL Executive Vice President of Events Dean Matsuzaki shared their excitement about holding an outdoor game at MetLife Stadium, a venue that's been on their radar for quite some time.

"It's a big NFL stadium, and it's our goal to just take it and bring it to life in a unique way that, frankly, we haven't necessarily seen that much. We're going to get super creative. We're gonna highlight the area, as it always is, with any of our outdoor games. It's our goal that when somebody tunes in to watch this, whether they're in the New York area, they're in Iowa, they're in California, or they're overseas, they know we're playing in New Jersey."

The Devils are 0-1-0 in outdoor games, while the Flyers' record is 1-3-1. New Jersey's all-time record versus Philadelphia is 122-116-26.

The Stadium Series will feature the 40th and 41st NHL regular-season outdoor games and will be the third and fourth such contests scheduled for the 2023-24 season, which includes the 2023 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic and 2024 Discover NHL Winter Classic
