The New Jersey Devils got their first taste of outdoor hockey on Friday evening at MetLife Stadium.
Around 6:00 P.M., family and friends lined the glass as the players gathered on the ice for their team photo. Off the ice, workers tested pyro and put the finishing touches on the surrounding stages to ensure everything was perfect for the tens of thousands of fans who would flood the stadium on Saturday evening.
Defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler once again joined his team and made up their fourth defensive pair with Nick DeSimone.

"It was pretty special. I've been here to watch football games, and you see how big it is, the crowd, and their excitement. When we're out there, and you're looking around, the rink feels small (because) you realize how big the (stadium) is. I played in an outdoor game in junior, which was very small compared to this."
"I think it is going to be an unbelievable experience. You probably don't have to warm up for the game; you'll be buzzing and just excited for it."
- Dawson Mercer on skating outside for the first time
"Knowing the situation that we're in this season, the script is set up perfectly for us. Team we're chasing, chance to play outside, and a rivalry game. It is a big two points. We can enjoy it tonight and have our families out here, but when tomorrow comes, our focus is on getting that win. Once we complete that, then you can look back and absorb everything."
- Curtis Lazar on playing the Philadelphia Flyers in the Stadium Series
"I think so, But I don't think veteran players need to show Jack (Hughes) how to play tomorrow. So I think he will be just fine, and he will show us how to play."
- Ondrej Palat on whether the team will rely on the veteran players to keep the younger guys grounded and focused
"The stakes are high. It's a four-point game against a division rival. To get this one is a big win. No matter if it's played in front of zero people or 60,000, it's a really important game."
- Jack Hughes on the importance of the game
"Just the complete atmosphere. The fans aren't on top of you, and you have a delayed roar, almost an echo. It's a completely different feeling than playing in a closed building."
- Head coach Lindy Ruff on the difference between playing indoors vs. outdoors
The Devils are set to arrive at MetLife Stadium between 5:00 and 5:30 P.M. on Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 P.M. at MetLife Stadium.
