The 2024 NHL Entry Draft is less than a month away with the New Jersey Devils set to make the 10th selection. A possible player they could be targeting is the goalscoring winger Cole Eiserman.
Heading into the season, Eiserman was challenging Macklin Celebrini for the first-overall pick but with concerns about his overall game, he's slid in the draft boards.
One concern no one will ever have about Eiserman is his ability to put the puck in the back of the net. Born on Aug. 29, 2006, the 6'0, 196 lbs left-handed winger broke Cole Caufield's USNTDP record for goals scored with 127 in 119 games.
Eiserman will be heading to Boston University next season to begin his College career. He was previously committed to Minnesota but decided to play for the Terriers.
Currently, the concern about Eiserman's game is his struggles to create offence for himself and his teammates. He's a bit too reliant on his teammates generating the chances and him finding open space to get his lethal shot off.
Another flaw in his game is his unsurprisingly poor defensive game. Many forwards and especially wingers, struggle to be consistent defensively but with the correct development, he'll improve.
Besides his lethal shot, Eiserman has other aspects of his game that deservedly receive praise. He has a physical edge to his game that makes him difficult to maintain around the boards and on the forecheck. None of his coaches have ever complained about his work ethic and he uses it to get himself into goal-scoring situations.
The Newburyport, Massachusetts-born winger may never drive a line like some other players in the draft can but teams may never find a player who can score like he can. Jack Hughes could be the perfect centre for Eiserman. Hughes loves to have the puck on his stick and is always looking to be a playmaker while Eiserman loves to find soft spots on the ice to show off his top-tier shot.
The potential to be a top-line winger who can compete for multiple Maurice "Rocket" Richard trophies is there and with patience and understanding of what Eiserman is, his development could pay off greatly if the Devils use the 10th overall pick on him.
