Devils’ Kevin Bahl on Back-To-Backs: ‘It’s Screwing Us Right Now'

After earning a much-needed 4-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night, the New Jersey Devils suffered a demoralizing 6-2 loss to the Dallas Stars on Saturday night at Prudential Center.

Entering their game against the Stars, the cards were stacked against the Devils. Opposing goaltender Scott Wedgewood held a perfect 2-0-0 record against his former team. The Stars won their last three consecutive games in New Jersey, and the Devils have struggled in the second game of a back-to-back set.

After a quick start that included four shots in the opening 40 seconds, the Devils surrendered the game's first goal again. Another frustrating loss in the second game of a back-to-back set followed.

"The back-to-back record speaks for itself. We've got to figure it out," Kevin Bahl said. "We have to find a way to flip that around."

The Devils are now 1-8-1 in the second game of a back-to-back set and have six more left before the regular season ends.

"Back-to-backs are screwing us right now," he continued. "It's destroying our record, so we need to figure it out. Everybody is frustrated in here. Coming into this game, we knew the situation of how that is affecting our record, and we have to flip it around."

The club's next back-to-back is a few weeks away when the Devils host Tomas Tatar and the Seattle Kraken on Feb. 12 and then travel to Tennessee to take on the Nashville Predators on Feb. 13 at Bridgestone Arena.

At the time of publication, the Devils are in the fourth wild-card spot with 49 points. The Detroit Red Wings possess the second wild-card spot with 51 points. New Jersey has a difficult schedule ahead, with games against the Vegas Golden Knights, Carolina Hurricanes, and Tampa Bay Lightning before the All-Star break.

The Devils are off on Sunday and will have a morning skate at 10:30 A.M. on Monday ahead of their game against the Golden Knights.
