New Jersey Devils' forward Ondrej Palat and Czechia have won Gold at the 2024 IIHF Men's World Championship.
The host nation becomes the fifth team to win Gold on home ice after they defeated Switzerland 2-0. Czechia have now won the World Championship 13 times and it's their first Gold Medal since 2010.
David Pastrnak rifled a one-timer in the third period to break open the scoreless game. David Kampf sealed the win for Czechia with an empty net goal. Palat was held off of the scoresheet but finished with three shots on target. The 33-year-old ended the tournament with three goals and six points in 10 games.
Nico Hischier, Jonas Siegenthaler and Akira Schmid have now all won their first World Championship medal with Switzerland. Hischier finished with six goals and 11 points in 10 games.
Dawson Mercer, Nico Daws and Canada are going home without a medal after a 4-2 loss to Sweden. Canada had a lead in the third period but gave up three unanswered goals to Erik Karlsson, Carl Grundstrom and Marcus Johansson.
Mercer finished with three goals and four points in nine games. He struggled to produce much offense in the tournament but was playing in a bottom-six role.
