Siegenthaler's father is from Switzerland, while his mother is from Thailand. The 6-foot-2 blueliner became the first NHL player of Thai descent when he made his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals in November 2018.
"Playing your first NHL game was an unbelievable feeling," Siegenthaler said to Devils' team reporter Catherine Bogart in January. "I didn't know at that time I was the first Thai NHL player. It was pretty special that I was the first one."
During his interview with Bogart, Siegenthaler shared that his parents permanently moved from Switzerland to Thailand, and he tries to make at least one trip a year now that they reside there.

"For me, it's important to bring hockey to Asia, where it's not that big yet. It's always nice to have kids looking up to you and want to be like you one day," Siegenthaler said in an interview with NHLPA.com.
The 27-year-old appeared in 57 games for New Jersey this season and earned nine points (one goal, eight assists). He missed time after suffering a broken foot in January and sustaining a concussion in March.
