Brunner played two seasons with the Devils, where he had 13 goals and 32 points in 77 games. His time with the Devils ended after he and the Devils mutually agreed to terminate his contract during the early stages of the 2014-15 season. This was after the Devils placed him on both regular and then unconditional waivers, where he went unclaimed.
