Islanders Place Pelech on LTIR, Martin on IR Ahead of Game vs. Flyers

Ahead of the New York Islanders game against the Philadelphia Flyers, the club has placed Adam Pelech on LTIR and Matt Martin on IR.

ELMONT, NY -- Ahead of their Saturday night showdown with the Philadelphia Flyers, the New York Islanders made a few roster moves following the loss of Adam Pelech and Sebastian Aho to injuries Friday night.

Pelech, a left-handed defenseman, left the game after being on the receiving end of a Drake Bastherson hit at 2:23 of the first period. He seemed to be holding his wrist as he skated off the ice and went right down the tunnel.

He has been placed on LTIR, which means he must miss a minimum of 10 games and 24 days. He can return on Dec. 19, when the Islanders host the Edmonton Oilers, if he's ready.

The Islanders can exceed the cap by Pelech's $5.75 million, so the Islanders can recall someone(s) from Bridgeport without having to make any financial moves. The Islanders can no longer accrue cap space.

Matt Martin (upper body), who hasn't played since Nov. 15 against the Vancouver Canucks, has been placed on IR (retro to Nov. 15).

He's been skating on his own but has missed the last four games and will miss his fifth Saturday. He can come back whenever he's ready, as he's missed the required seven days.

Here's what Lamoriello had to say on all three injured parties:

"Adam Pelech, Sebastian Aho, and Matt Martin are all out with upper body injuries. Pelech, we've put on long-term because we have been advised that he'd be out at least a few weeks and he would become eligible on December 19. Aho, we still don't know to what extent that is, and we won't know until the next couple of days, examined by the doctors. Martin, we had retroactive injury reserve, which means that when his injury [heals], he's eligible to come off, and he's close."

Lamoriello added that they placed Martin on IR to create a roster space in order to claim Mike Reilly off waivers.

The Islanders have recalled Grant Hutton from Bridgeport.
