RALEIGH -- On the surface, the Carolina Hurricanes made easy work of the New York Islanders in the First Round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
After just five games, Carolina was off to the Second Round, as they'll be in New York to face the New York Rangers.
Shortly after the buzzer sounded in a 6-3 loss that ended the Islanders' season, Carolina Governor Roy Cooper took a shot at them:
There's not much anyone can say about it, even if it's a low blow. He's doing things to garner attention and potential voters.
Warmup is one word, at least per The Hockey News style guide.
The Hurricanes social media team, which did an excellent job in pissing off the Islanders faithful this series, were up to their usual antics yet again following the game:
While it wasn't a shock the way the Hurricanes social media team acted, the Islanders never stooped to that kind of level (nor did they really have the chance).
The Islanders' social media team actually kept things respectful:
The Hurricanes never played their A-game against the Islanders, who kept it close in all the games.
If Rod Brind'Amour's team plays like they did in this series against the Rangers, Mr. Roy Cooper may face some backlash, because Islanders fans never forget.
