LOS ANGELES -- On the second of a back-to-back, the New York Islanders couldn't keep the winning streak alive, falling 3-0 to the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena on Monday night.

The Islanders are now out of a playoff spot. They are tied with the Detroit Red Wings in points (72), but Detroit holds the tie-breaker with two more regulation wins.

Here's how it happened:

The Islanders had a strong start to the game, as all four lines were rolling early.

The Islanders found themselves on a 5-on-3 power play at 12:46 of the first, but then Mathew Barzal was called for slashing Kings defenseman Drew Doughty, who laid on the puck:

The Kings went 0-for-2 on their two power plays.

Los Angeles got on the board first, as Matt Kempe scored off the rush, beating Ilya Sorokin low glove at 7:14 of the second after Mike Reilly's stick impacted the shot location:

This goal came right after Hudson Fasching was denied by Kings goalie David Rittich on an odd-man rush at the other end.

The Kings doubled their lead to 2-0 at 6:07 of the third as Phillip Danault tapped home after a Trevor Moore pass got past Noah Dobson:

Moore scored on the empty net at 17:38 of the third as he read Noah Dobson's blue-line pass to make it a 3-0 game.

The Islanders had chances to score in the third. but ultimately couldn't get one past Rittich, who stopped all 26 shots that came his way for his second shutout of the season.

New York's power play went 0-for-5, which was the story of the game.
