New York Islanders head coach Lane Lambert was clearly upset with what transpired Friday night, as his team lost 5-4 to the Columbus Blue Jackets in overtime after a disastrous second period.
Following the loss, forward Kyle Palmieri expressed that he didn't think his team came ready to play, which is unacceptable given their position in the standings and how important every point is.
Lambert was asked if he was disappointed to hear that from a team leader with so much on the line.
"Yeah, sure it is. Yep, no question," Lambert said.
One would expect to see New York come out flying, but that's also not something the Islanders have done as of late, despite playing well.
There were positives from the overtime loss, like left winger Zach Parise scoring his 20th of the season at 38, which put him in the history books.

Parise and his father, the late J.P. Parise, became the fourth father/son duo to score 20 goals in a season for the same franchise. J.P. Parise scored more than 20 goals for the Islanders twice during his four-year tenure.
"I think that's pretty fantastic," Lambert said. "And the fact that he did it at 38 years old is even more fantastic."
On Parise's 20th goal, right winger Hudson Fasching showed off his hands to make a sneaky pass, one of his better passes this season.
As for the skill he showed off, Lambert thought it was a job well done.
"He has skill, obviously. What it shows me is that he has the confidence to make plays. And that's been one of the nice things about him," Lambert said. "And there's a line between making plays and getting pucks in deep. So I think he's balanced that pretty well, but the ability to make that play is key for me."
Regarding injury updates, forward Mathew Barzal (week-to-week, lower body) is still not skating, and there is no update on defenseman Sebastian Aho (day-to-day, upper body).
