Emil Heineman escapes further discipline after a knee-on-knee collision led to an early exit, leaving the shorthanded Islanders to struggle through a penalty-filled shutout loss against Edmonton.

New York Islanders forward Emil Heineman will not receive a disciplinary hearing following the ejection the Swedish forward received on Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers.

Heineman received a five-minute major and a game misconduct at 2:22 of the first period after he made knee-on-knee contact with Oilers forward Isaac Howard in the neutral zone:

The Islanders wound up losing 4-0 to Edmonton, with the team unable to establish any rhythm down a forward.

The team also took an additional four minor penalties, giving the deadly Oilers too many opportunities to gain momentum.

The Oilers only scored one power-play goal, but postgame, the Islanders pointed to their penalties as a big factor in the tough loss.

"We were a day late and a dollar short," Islanders' Head Coach Peter DeBoer said.

The team now had four days off before returning to action Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes live inside UBS Arena.
