When the news broke that the New York Islanders had moved on from Lou Lamoriello, we were told that John Collins would be leading the search for the next general manager.
BREAKING: Lou Lamoriello's Time With Islanders Is Over
On Tuesday, the New York Islanders announced that they will not be renewing the contract of general manager Lou Lamoriello.
You may be wondering, who is John Collins?
Back in 2023, Collins became the Operating Partner for the Islanders and UBS Arena.
In simplest terms, he oversees the business operations.
Collins has a background in the sports and entertainment industry spanning over three decades. He served as the COO of the NHL, the president and CEO of the NFL's Cleveland Browns, and spent 15 seasons as a senior executive at the NFL, in addition to serving as the CEO of On Location Experiences, a private equity live event and experiential business platform.
With the NHL, Collins was the architect in transforming the NHL into the product that it is today. During his time with the league, the NHL went from a $2 billion industry to a $4B industry, with national businesses averaging 18% annual revenue growth and 28% annual operating profit growth. He negotiated the T.V. deal with NBC ($2.2 billion) in 2011, Rogers in 2013 ($5.2 billion) and a $1 billion digital media rights partnership with MLB Advaned Media in 2015.
Collins has also been an investor and adviser to Super Group Holdings, a global digital gaming company, publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange as of January 2022 following the company’s merger with a $450 million investment vehicle for which Collins helped raise the capital and served as Chief Executive Officer. Collins is also an early investor and adviser to TMRW Sports, the new golf entity founded by Tiger Woods, Rory McIllroy and Mike McCarley.
Collins has the background to lead the search as the Islanders' organization moves into a brand new chapter.
