Schaefer, who elected not to go the college route, will be fighting for a roster spot this fall after signing his entry-level deal on Aug. 4.

The <a href="http://thn.com/isles">New York Islanders</a> announced that they have signed No. 1 overall pick <a href="https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/new-york-islanders/latest-news/islanders-draft-matthew-schaefer-with-first-overall-pick-at-2025-nhl-draft">Matthew Schaefer</a> to his entry-level deal.
For Gatcomb, he recorded eight goals with one assist for nine points in 39 games last season, his rookie campaign after going undrafted out of the University of Connecticut. He signed a one-year extension this summer after bouncing around.
