A shifting NHL schedule ends a decade-long tradition as new CBA rules shorten the preseason.
For the first time since 2014, the New York Islanders will not face the Philadelphia Flyers during their 2026 preseason.
The Islanders haven't yet released their schedule, but based on the fact that the Flyers are playing just two teams, one can expect the Islanders to face the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils twice.
Per the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, the preseason was to be shortened, with the regular season increasing from 82 to 84 games.
