Islanders Morning Skate Updates Ahead of Battle vs. Bruins

EAST MEADOW, NY -- Here's the latest on the New York Islanders injured players ahead of their battle against the Boston Bruins.

ADAM PELECH

Adam Pelech has missed the last nine games with an upper-body injury after he appeared to suffer a wrist injury in the first period of their 5-3 win over the Ottawa Senators on Nov. 24.

The Islanders placed him on long-term injured reserve (must miss 10 games and 24 days), which he is eligible to be activated on Dec. 19 before the Islanders battle the Edmonton Oilers.

However, that will not be the case.

"I think it's going to take a little longer," Lambert said Friday. "I don't expect him to come off at that timeframe."

Pelech has been skating on his own but has yet to rejoin the group.

The 29-year-old has two assists in 14 games, averaging 19:38 minutes per game.

RYAN PULOCK

Ryan Pulock suffered a lower-body injury on Dec. 7 in the second period of the Islanders' 7-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

He took a Zack Werenski point shot off the right ankle but remained in the game before staying on the bench for the final 8:14 minutes.

The Islanders placed Pulock on injured reserve (must miss seven days) retroactive to the date of the injury, so he is eligible to return when he is ready.

Lambert said that Pulock has not yet resumed skating.

The 29-year-old has two goals and four assists in 25 games, averaging 22:47 minutes per game.

SCOTT MAYFIELD

Scott Mayfield, who just signed a seven-year, $24.5 million deal this summer, has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Dec. 11.

Mayfield seemed to have injured his left finger during the Islanders' 4-3 overtime win over the Toronto Maple Leafs this past Monday.

He had been considered day-to-day until Friday's update.

Mayfield has not rejoined the group since the injury and will be eligible to return to the lineup on Wednesday, Dec. 20, against the Washington Capitals.

Mayfield has four assists in 20 games, averaging 19:13 minutes per game.

MATT MARTIN

Matt Martin hasn't played for the Islanders since their 4-3 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Nov. 15 due to an upper-body injury.

After being activated off injured reserve on Nov. 28 ahead of the Islanders' 5-4 loss at the hands of the New Jersey Devils, Martin suffered a setback during morning skate down in Florida on Dec. 2, ahead of their 4-3 win.

He's been skating every day, serving as an extra, and is eligible to return whenever he is ready.

"He's getting better on a daily basis. He's not there yet," Lambert said.

As for Martin hopping back in on the fourth line when he returns with Hudson Fasching playing so well in his spot, Lambert had this to say.

"That's such a hypothetical question right now," Lambert said. "There's so many things that can happen with injuries, whatever it might be between now and then, that we wouldn't even bother going there. Matt has been a huge part of the team. He is a huge part of the team and will continue to be a huge part of the team and [the fourth] line moving forward."

The 34-year-old has one goal and one assist in 14 games, averaging 8:27 minutes per game.
