The New York Islanders shocked their fan base in 2022-23 when they brought back a Fisherman-inspired sweater in partnership with Adidas.
The fans who had to witness the original Fishermans from 1995-1997 saw this jersey decision as such a negative for a franchise that had moved in the right direction over the last few years.
Going back to a time -- and jersey design -- when the Islanders were already the laughingstock of the NHL -- finishing in the bottom of the Atlantic Division in both seasons -- was bad juju.
However, the fans who didn't get to live through the pain fell in love with these new concepts, as they dominated the UBS Arena stands this past season, with the Islanders sporting a 3-3-0 record with them on.

Although fans can still buy them in the team store, the Islanders will not be donning them on the ice this upcoming season, per an industry source.
Happy tears for some. Sad tears for others.
The NHL's partnership with Adidas ends following the season, as Fanatics becomes the new jersey partner for 2024-25 and beyond.

On Feb. 18, the Islanders hit the great outdoors for the first time since 2014 to host the New York Rangers at MetLife Stadium as part of the NHL's Stadium Series.
Although we do not know what the Islanders will be wearing, it's likely possible that they will wear these specialized jerseys for some home games after the event, as we saw back in 2014.
