EAST MEADOW, NY -- Liam Foudy earned his call-up with the New York Islanders.
Yes, he's done well in Bridgeport, with four assists through the opening five games, but it's what he showed during training camp that kept him in the back of the mind of head coach Patrick Roy and general manager Lou Lamoriello.
"I was very happy with him. I really liked the way he played in training camp," Roy said on Tuesday morning. "I thought it was hard to let him go. He did everything we asked for, and he's been playing well in Bridgeport. He deserved to be with us right now."
Foudy was part of the last round of cuts, hitting waivers with Hudson Fasching, Pierre Engvall, Fredrik Karlstrom, Samuel Bolduc, Grant Hutton, and Marcus Hogberg.
Foudy will be skating with Oliver Wahlstrom and Kyle MacLean on the Islanders' fourth line.
"It was great. I felt really good in camp," Foudy said. "It was great to start down there and get my legs under me. I think it'll help me up here. There's always nerves for every game, to get an opportunity again but it's going to be a lot of fun."
"Speed, I think, is the biggest thing with him. But he's also a smart player," Islanders forward Bo Horvat said. "He's good at both ends of the rink and really reliable. Adding his speed to our lineups is gonna be great for us, I'm sure."
Horvat touched on it, but Foudy's IQ is rather strong, which complements his speed rather nicely.
Having speed with a lackluster IQ is useless.
Not only does he get recalled, but Foudy becomes the first player since Josh Bailey (2022-23) to wear No. 12.
The others:

Bailey donned No. 12 from 2009-2023, a number that hasn't been retired by the organization but a player that certainly will end up in the Islanders Hall of Fame at some point.
