New York City, N.Y- Artemi Panarin tied Rod Gilbert's club-record point streak to open a season tonight against his former team the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Panarin was asked what the record meant to him following the game, "It honestly means a lot to me... Thanks to my partners and friends for the support."
Rod Gilbert, "Mr. Ranger", set the record in the 1972-1973 season. For the current star winger, it's the longest point streak at any point in a season in his career.
The last Ranger to have a point streak of 13 games or more was Panarin in 2020. Now in 2023, he's recorded 24 points in 14 games, which is second-best in the NHL.
He recorded the secondary assists on two Alexis Lafreniere goals. Lafreniere is on a heater himself, with a point in four straight contests and goals in back-to-back games.
Panarin talked more about his teammates than himself stating, "[It's] nice to see hard work pay off for Laffy," he continued, " I'm really happy for him, especially after seeing everyone [who] waited for him for the last couple of years. It was a different situation. He's worked hard since he came here."
Full of jokes again, he was also impressed by another teammate, "Kreids made the pass...he surprised me. I don't know about you."
Artemi Panarin has been the engine behind the Rangers 11-2-1 record. He's snatched the pen and is writing the history book himself.
