New York City, NY- The New York Rangers lost to the Carolina Hurricanes 6-1, Igor Shesterkin's win streak ending at five games.
Here’s how it happened:
Alexis Lafreniere interfered with Set Jarvis on the first shift of the match, Jack Drury buried a one-timer on the ensuing powerplay 1:49 into the contest.
The Hurricanes appeared to have many close penalty calls but were only penalized on one play. To close out the frame, Andrei Svechnikov lit the lamp to put Carolina up 2-0, the top powerplay unit starting the game two-for-two.
The Rangers cut the lead on a Chris Kreider tip-in, his 19th score of the year. He tied his career-long point streak of seven games with the tally.
Jordan Martinook scored his second goal of the season on an Igor Shesterkin pass miscue to extend the Carolina lead at the 6:32 mark. Igor Shesterkin made a timely two-on-one shorthanded save to keep it a two-score game, closing out the period.
The Rangers entered the game 3-7-0 when trailing after two periods.
