The New York Ranger's 37-year-old backup goalkeeper turns back the clock with a 32-save shutout.

Jonathan Quick, the former champion netminder now 37 years old, slammed the door shut on the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Back to his Richterian, Gumby-like prime, the one-time Ranger fan now donning the blue sweater made 32 saves to blank the Penguins in Pittsburgh for the first time in his 17-year career. It was the keeper's 60th career shutout, tying him with Pekka Rinne for 16th most in NHL history.

Alexis Lafreniere unleashed 6 shots on the net and scored the game's lone goal on a breakaway 5:10 into the first frame.

Vinnie Hinistroza scored with 4:30 left in the first period on a play where Quick lost his catching mitt. Peter Laviolette challenged the goal for offside. It was overturned.

The Rangers marched to the box 5 times in the contest, but the penalty kill handled the task. The Penguins would go 0/5 on the man advantage. The Penguins drop to 9-9-0 following tonight's loss.

Former Pittsburgh Penguin Nick Bonino blocked 4 shots in the contest and leads all NHL forwards with 45. He has 23 more blocks than the next skater in that category.

Johnathan Quick improves to 5-0-1, with a 1.68 GAA, and .940 SV%. It was the veteran's second shutout in six starts this year. What is Benoit Allaire's secret sauce?

The New York Rangers only recorded 4 shots in the third period and blocked 25 shots in the game, holding on for their 13th victory of the season. The club is now 13-3-1 on the season, good for 3rd place in the NHL.
