Kaapo Kakko will flank Nick Bonino and Will Cuylle tonight against the Detroit Red Wings. An injury and low production forced head coach Peter Laviolette to shuffle the Ranger's offensive lines after 10 games of not touching them.
Before today's morning skate, Laviolette talked about Kakko, "He's very responsible offensively, he's big, he's strong, he has speed... through the course of 11 games, it hasn't clicked the way you would want from a production standpoint. I'm not saying it's Kaapo. That's just the reality of it."
Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider have only combined for 3 goals at even strength. That drastically affected Kakko's output on the top unit.
The 22-year-old winger is content with the swap, "I think we didn't have much going on in the last four games with that line, so it's good to change the lines a little and to try to find my game," he continued, "I know I haven't been that guy I should be out there. So, try to feel better tonight."
Kakko has 1 goal, and 1 assist in 11 games this season. In 250 career games, he has amassed exactly 100 points.
