The Rangers lost 7-3 to the Toronto Maple Leafs, but the club's top defender is returning to form after a month of recovery.

On Tuesday night, the New York Rangers lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs 7-3 on home ice. For all-star rearguard Adam Fox it was another step toward playing a complete effort following a month-long LTIR stay from November 3rd to November 29th.

The team lost, but his focus was playing a complete hockey game, "The game today your down early you're gonna make a few more reads to jump and [to] try to create offense. It's just letting the game come to me, easing my way back that way."

The surgical Norris Trophy-winning defender has already recorded 7 assists in 6 games since his reactivation.

His hockey IQ is stupendous and did not miss a beat. The rest had to catch up, "At the start of the year, you're getting that feeling back, granted it was only a month but, everyone's playing 10 games they're kind of in more of a swing. I tried to keep it simple. Play defense first and take care of that and kind of look to the offense."

New York's decorated blueliner skated 25:27 at even strength, and quarterbacked the power play for 3:22 against Toronto. He recorded an assist on Mika Zibanejad's man advantage goal in the second frame.

Upon his return to gameplay on November 29th, he stated that he had never been injured long-term in his entire hockey career.

Fox provided insight as to how he's tuning back in to NHL gameplay, "[I] don't want to mess up any flow or rhythm. That's what I've been trying to do, slowly build into reading and seeing my chances to go. You don't want to be an idiot out there, at first when you come back and be jumping in and it's not the right time. For me, slowly trying got play smart and build back to those reads."

No.23 defends with his tremendous hockey acumen. He stands, at 5'11, his top speed outburst is 20 miles per hour (NHL Edge). Massive hits or a blistering slap shot are not the skills that make him one of the best defenseman in the NHL. It's his instincts, reads, and playmaking. His modifications post-injury are all in how he see's the game.

The New York Rangers have franchise pillars. They need a healthy and effective Adam Fox.  He is getting back into game shape, an inspiriting step towards contention for the New York Rangers.
