What's the right chant for when the Rangers score a goal?
When the New York Rangers light the lamp at Madison Square Garden, the Blue Shirt faithful, in unison, chant their goal song.
But are people saying the right word?
It's a song with just one lyric, but the question is, was it intended to be sung "Goal" or "Woah"?
It's hockey, so of course, the chant is goal, right?
According to Madison Square Garden musical director and writer of the goal song called "Slapshot", Ray Castoldi said that the written lyric is indeed "Woah."
Written in the late summer of 1994, Castoldi didn't think "goal didn't track very well," so they used the word "woah, but he knows that regardless of what is being chanted, the passion of the Rangers faithful comes through.
