In just his third NHL game, Rangers Matt Rempe was tossed for hitting Devils forward Nate Bastian up high.

New York Rangers forward Matthew Rempe received a match penalty for a high hit to New Jersey Devils forward Nate Bastian.

The six-foot-seven,21-year-old came in flying along the boards and put his shoulder into Bastian’s head, which was facing down towards the puck.

The Devils forward struggled to get up, as blood was seen dripping from his nose and onto the ice.

Jonas Siegenthaler of the Devils confronted Rempe after the hit, and Rempe dropped his gloves and started throwing punches before the Devils player could drop his own.

Both players were given roughing minors.

This is Rempe’s third career game, as he was called up prior to the Feb. 18th game against the New York Islanders. The rookie has now racked up 12 penalty minutes in just 9:47 of total ice time across three games.

Bastian returned to the game before the end of the first period.

Bastian later fought Rangers captain Jacob Trouba.
